10 Jul 2008: Boat Storage Development for Clanwilliam

The Western Cape’s unique boat storage development is set for the boating mecca of Clanwilliam. This announcement follows the success of similar concepts in Gauteng - located on the Vaal River, Hartebeespoort dam & Vaal dam - and will be developed by Dave Harris Properties in conjunction with Plan Trust. This long awaited development is scheduled for completion before the 2008 summer season.

According to co-developer Dave Harris, the Clanwilliam Boat Storage Development - located at the entrance to the Clanwilliam Dam - is perfectly positioned to service the more than 900 boats that constitute both Clanwilliam & Bulshoek’s thriving boating fraternity. “The dams located between Clanwilliam, Misverstand and Bulshoek have more boats per capita than anywhere else in the Cape and this does not even account for the surrounding fishing villages like Lamberts Bay.”

The development will offer far larger than regular garages, varying in size from 4.0m x 10m and 4.5m x 10m to 4.8m x 15m. These garages have been designed to accommodate the new breed of Waterski and wakeboard boats which are longer and wider than normal, which means the wakeboard towers do not have to be removed. They can also house larger and higher (4.5 metres in height), 30 foot pontoon boats and day cruisers.  “All of these boat types are substantial leisure investments for consumers and this development will provide a significant convenience factor, foregoing the need for transportation from destinations such as Cape Town and further afield.”

Harris explains that negotiations are well underway for the development to include a commercial element in the form of a showroom - showcasing popular brands of new, local and imported boats along with space for used boats, a lifestyle boating accessory shop, and a professionally run boat workshop to service boats in the area as well as a boat valet service. Other features include access controlled security, a brick-paved centre forecourt, toilet and shower facilities, as well as a drainage system in each garage designed to remove any excess water from washing the boat.

Additional benefits of boat storage at Clanwilliam include fuel saving costs during transportation and road damage such as stone chips to fiberglass hulls and windshields. “Some people often need to buy larger homes in Clanwilliam to accommodate their boats. Storage minimises this expense and necessity.

“Clanwilliam is an extremely popular weekend and holiday destination, perfect for water enthusiasts. This boat storage development, the first of its kind in the Western Cape, will not only cater to existing boaters in Clanwilliam but also the growing community of bass fishermen, creating a central boating-focused hub with top-grade facilities,” says Harris. “There are only 30 garage opportunities available for sale. To date, we have been inundated with enquiries and this is even before the official launch date,” Harris adds.
